"You have to create some kind of hype – that is why trailers are used. Then you have to have more money than the film costs to advertise it everywhere. Distribution is another whole story… I wish there could be an avenue for shorts to be clustered together for cinema showings for the public. They do it for the film festivals, why not at regular theaters?"

I thought the same thing as I was reading this. Why cant I see the films being made by you two talented men. Due to the amount of youtube shorts and atom films (what ever happened to atom anyway?), you have to protect the property one way or the other. What ends up happening with the shorts is that they only show in festivals. They do generate buzz and money (I'm hoping for the latter for you) but they do not put the movies into my hands. Who would then spread them among my geek friends, ensuring that your names keep a certain geek protection (at least until you do something to anger the hive mind).

Ok, I can definitely see how someone might hate Tim Burton or superhero movies. They do, after all, usually seem to revolve almost entirely around really funky visuals (Tim Burton) or fast-paced action sequences where a lot of things blow up (superhero movies - actually, pretty much all action movies that I can think of). What they often seem to lack is a compelling story-line and well-developed characters, and I also hate the number of "stock characters" they throw into these things (power-hungry-woman-who-just-needs-to-find-love, corrupt-villainous-businessman, etc). But what about movies like "Big Fish" (granted, not the norm for Burton) or (dare I say it) "Dark Knight"? The story-line in these movies was, I thought, quite well done, and I felt like I knew most of the characters by the end. Do you think that the problem lies more within the director/genre itself, or do you like specific movies like these (or others)?

Just curious as to your thoughts!

Adding to what Lin wrote (or maybe not), you also have to cast actors that people want to see. I personally have always preferred to follow the careers of those actors flying just under the radar, which is part of the lure of indie for me, but I'm a little weird. I observe that most moviegoers care mainly about seeing the actors they know and love being put into this or that situation and seeing what happens.

P.S. For what it's worth, I'd enjoy seeing a series of shorts before my movie instead of crappy commercials and even crappier previews....

I am so in love with the fact I got a wild hair to google the Strong brothers. Oddly enough, I googled "the strong brothers" so I linked to this site.
LOVE Dungeon Master. Totally hope I get a shot to watch it SOON! Can't wait to see what comes now that I have a direct link :)
